It Started Before There Was Even a Company Name

Jason Szewc, pronounced chefs, grew up around construction the way some kids grow up around sports. His father worked in the industry, and jobsites were just part of life from an early age. Growing up between Sheridan and northern Minnesota, he absorbed the rhythms of building without ever thinking of it as a career plan. It was just how things got done. That foundation turned out to matter more than any classroom ever could.

Jason attended college in Minnesota on a wrestling scholarship, studying business and marketing, and spent time after graduation in sales and consulting. But construction kept pulling him back. In 1996 he moved permanently to Sheridan and joined his father building log homes, manufacturing, and construction projects across the Mountain West. Over the next eleven years, they completed more than 50 custom log homes throughout the region. That era shaped everything that followed. Log home construction teaches you to think in three dimensions, to respect the relationship between structure and site, and to understand that craftsmanship is not optional. It either shows up in the work or it does not.

What started in log homes eventually grew into something broader. Jason earned his commercial contractor license in 2008 and kept building in every direction. ICF concrete homes. Post frame structures. Commercial buildings. Infrastructure work. Preservation projects. Each phase of his career added a layer of knowledge that shows up in the way we approach every project today. As an ICF home builder in Sheridan WY with roots in timber and log construction, we bring a builder's eye to materials, structure, and site that contractors without that background simply do not have.

What We Believe About the Way This Work Should Be Done

There is a version of this business that chases the highest contract on every project. That is not this business. We operate from a simple belief: your best interest comes before our revenue. If the building method you are considering does not fit your land, you should hear that before money changes hands. If a simpler option serves your goals better than a more expensive one, that conversation should happen in the first meeting. If the project is going to cost more than expected, you should know early. That is not idealism. That is just the right way to work when someone is trusting you with the biggest investment of their life.

You may be comparing ICF concrete homes, custom builds, post frame structures, or restoration options without being entirely sure what each one means for your property. That is a completely normal place to start. Most people who build in Wyoming are not construction professionals. They are families, ranchers, business owners, and landowners trying to make a smart decision in unfamiliar territory. Our job is to give you clear information, honest recommendations, and the confidence to move forward without second-guessing every choice. As a custom home builder based in Sheridan WY, with experience across every building type we offer, we have seen what goes wrong when the planning process gets rushed. We take it slowly on purpose.

That philosophy also shows up in how we communicate. We respond within one business day. We do not disappear after the first conversation. We follow through on what we say we will do. Those things sound like basics, and they are. But they are also the things that make a custom home builder Sheridan WY worth calling again when the next project comes around.

Meet Jason Szewc

Thirty years in construction is a long time, but the number matters less than what those years actually produced. Jason has held a commercial contractor license for 18 years. He has built more than 50 custom ICF concrete homes and over 250 post frame structures across Northeast Wyoming and the region.

During his time leading sales and production at Cleary Building Corp., he managed more than 10 million dollars in sales and production over four years with a team of 15. At EMIT Technologies, he led the construction of two major commercial projects. At Mountain View Building, he worked on the Leopard Street water and sewer reconstruction project in Sheridan, a year-long infrastructure effort serving roughly 160 homes. At A&B Buildings as Vice President and head of sales, he supervised construction of around 20 post frame and steel buildings.

Meet Jason Szewc

He holds a Historic Society Award for Preservation and, this year, a Lester Buildings Award of Excellence for the two loafing sheds built for the Sheridan College rodeo team, each 25 by 260 by 10 feet.

Those are the credentials. Here is what they mean in practice. When you call to talk about a custom home, a shop, a commercial project, or a restoration, you are talking to someone who has actually done every one of those things at scale. Not someone who has read about them. Not someone who picked up a license and calls himself an expert.

Someone who has spent three decades on real projects, in real Wyoming conditions, working through the problems that come up on real jobsites. That depth is what allows us to give you honest guidance rather than a sales pitch.

Over the past five years, he has worked independently through Great Western Contracting, focusing on custom homes, remodels, and partnerships with organizations including Sheridan College, AXE Build LLC, Wyoming ICF, Wildcat Well Service, and Silvernail Construction. Through all of it, the same belief has held. As Jason puts it:

“It’s not easy for people to trust you when you’re talking about the biggest expense of their life. It’s gratifying when you do a good job and the customer becomes your friend.”

What You Are Actually Getting When You Call Us

You are getting someone who will pick up the phone, answer your question honestly, and tell you the truth about what your project involves before any commitment is made. You are getting 30 years of Wyoming construction experience across log homes, timber work, ICF concrete, post frame, commercial buildings, and historic preservation. You are getting an authorized Nudura ICF installer and a Lester Buildings dealer, which means engineered materials with documented performance and warranty behind them. You are getting 18 years of commercial contractor experience on the license that backs every project.

What you are not getting is a company that tells you what you want to hear to get the contract signed. If the project needs to be phased differently, we will say so. If the site has conditions that will affect cost, you will know before the plans are drawn. If a building method does not fit what you are trying to accomplish, we will tell you that too and help you find one that does. As an ICF home builder Sheridan WY and general contractor serving Sheridan County and Northeast Wyoming, the goal has always been the same: a client who feels confident in the decision, not just in the building.

That standard applies whether your project is a custom home on rural land, a post frame shop on a working ranch, a commercial structure for your business, or a historic restoration that deserves more than a standard remodel. We serve buyers across Sheridan, Big Horn, Ranchester, Story, Buffalo, Gillette, Sundance, and the surrounding communities of Northeast Wyoming. As an ICF home builder Sheridan WY and general contractor, each project starts the same way: a conversation about what you need, what the land asks, and what the honest path forward looks like.

Ready to Have That First Conversation?

The best construction decisions almost always happen before the first shovel touches the ground. That is when the site can still shape the plan, the budget can still guide the method, and the details that matter most can be sorted out without becoming expensive corrections. You do not need every answer before reaching out. You only need a property, a project idea, or a question that has been sitting with you. Bring those and we will work through them together honestly.

Whether you are looking for a custom home builder Sheridan WY to help plan a forever home, or trying to understand what ICF concrete construction would mean for your land and your long-term ownership picture, the first conversation is free and it matters. Call Great Western Contracting today.
